Where Are We Going?

British Columbia waters host a diverse topography and marine life that draws divers from around the world. Wreck divers enjoy exploring the three great wrecks in the area, one shallow in the channel, and two deeper just outside the Harbour; each offers a different diversity of life. Nearby walls and reefs offer something for both the advanced and the technical scuba diver alike.

Oct 4th - 5th 2025 Trip

Join us for a full 2 days trip to experience Vancouver Island diving; some of the best diving in the world! We have both days booked with Nanaimo Dive Outfitters to explore the amazing wrecks around Nanaimo. We will dive the HMCS Saskatchewan, Cape Breton, and the RivTow Lion. This trip will semi-unguided due to variation in diver experience. We will be pairing divers together who do not have a buddy, but make sure you are comfortable enough to follow a dive plan without a guide to lead you for the whole dive.

Who is This Trip for?:

  • Anyone wishing to explore world class shipwreck diving
  • Wreck Specialty certified divers who want to do a some overhead wreck exploration.
  • Photographers interested in capturing or wide angle action
  • Scubadivers should have Advanced or Technical certification, and a minimum of 15 cold water dives, with one being in the last 6 months
  • Scuba divers wishing to do wreck penetration need to have a wreck certification
  • Nitrox certification is highly recommended. Dives will be between 18m - 25m deep.

  • Who is the trip NOT for:

  • Newer divers who have not quite mastered buoyancy control or had much experience in a drysuit
  • Open Water Divers who have not been trained to dive deeper than 18m/60ft
  • Divers who require a diveguide to be present at all times for comfort. These can include a range of experienced divers, and our instructor may be guiding experienced wreck divers inside the shipwreck, in which case you will need to be comfortable continuing the dive with your buddy.

  • Itinerary :

  • Oct 4th for those requiring transportation, we will be meeting at Diving Sports at 7:15am to catch the 8:35am ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo
  • We will be meeting in Departure Bay Nanaimo at the Brechin Boat launch at 10:30am (approx 500m from the ferry terminal)
  • We will be doing 2 boat dives exploring the wrecks close by.
  • We will spend the night in Nanaimo to rest up for our next day on the boat! As this trip has the option to include transportation or accommodations, you may choose to book whichever hotel works best for you or pay a little extra for us to arrange the hotel for you!
  • Oct 5th 8:30 am - Meet on the Brechin Boat Launch to load up and get ready for some more wreck diving
  • Diving 1 or 2 of the shipwrecks located near Departure Bay.
  • 1:30pm - Make our way back to the dock.
