SDI Solo Diver Specialty Course | Vancouver

The SDI Solo Diver Specialty Course at Diving Sports Canada is designed for experienced divers who want to develop the skills, confidence, and self-reliance required to safely plan and execute dives without a dive buddy.

While scuba diving is traditionally taught as a buddy activity, there are situations where divers may choose to dive independently. This course teaches the benefits, hazards, procedures, and equipment requirements associated with solo diving while reinforcing advanced dive planning, gas management, situational awareness, and self-rescue skills.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates may participate in solo diving activities within the limits of their training and experience.

Who Is This Course For?

  • Experienced divers seeking greater independence underwater.
  • Underwater photographers and videographers who prefer longer, self-paced dives.
  • Divers who struggle to find compatible dive buddies.
  • Divers looking to strengthen dive planning and self-rescue skills.
  • Divers seeking a new challenge and advanced level of personal responsibility.

Knowledge Development:

Students complete the SDI Solo Diver eLearning program before the course and attend an instructor-led workshop covering:

  • Advanced dive planning techniques
  • Gas management strategies
  • Risk assessment
  • Redundant equipment systems
  • Emergency procedures
  • Solo diver equipment configuration

Become a More Self-Reliant and Confident Diver

The SDI Solo Diver Specialty Course at Diving Sports Canada is designed for experienced divers who want to develop advanced self-reliance, emergency management, and independent dive planning skills. As one of Vancouver's leading scuba training facilities, we provide professional instruction that prepares divers to safely conduct solo dives within the limits of their training and experience.

Training takes place at Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver, one of British Columbia's most popular dive sites. Students learn advanced gas management, dive planning, self-rescue techniques, and redundant equipment configuration while gaining valuable experience in real cold-water diving conditions.

Why Train with Diving Sports Canada?

At Diving Sports Canada, we emphasize practical skill development rather than simply meeting minimum certification requirements. Our instructors provide hands-on coaching and personalized feedback throughout the course to ensure students are fully prepared to become self-sufficient divers.

With small class sizes, extensive cold-water experience, and a commitment to safety, our team helps divers develop the confidence and competence required for advanced diving activities.

Commitment to Safety

Solo diving requires a higher level of preparation and responsibility than traditional buddy diving. Throughout the course, students learn how to mitigate risks through proper equipment redundancy, detailed planning, emergency preparedness, and disciplined decision-making.

Safety remains our highest priority during every stage of training.
